Logan County Railroad History

    

 

   

 

 

 

 

   

     From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century the railroad was the dominant industry in Logan County. Bellefontaine was the home of one of the largest roundhouses or repair centers on the Big Four/New York Central Railroad. Nearly a quarter of the people employed in Logan County worked for the railroad. During its heyday dozens of trains stopped and came through Logan County bring people and goods and helping connect Logan County to the rest of the country.

     Inside this room are photographs, artifacts and text illustrating the importance of the railroad to Bellefontaine and Logan County and vice versa.
